Harira

Harira is a hearty and flavorful soup , typically made with chickpeas, lentils, and a blend of spices. This dish is served on special occasions like Ramadan, or as a warm and comforting meal on chilly days.

Harira

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup dried chickpeas
  • 1/2 cup red lentils
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 large tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cups of vegetable broth
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish
  • Fresh lemon wedges for serving

Instructions:

  1. Soak chickpeas overnight.
  2. In a large pot, sauté onion until translucent.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes and tomato paste, cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Add chickpeas, lentils, spices, and broth.
  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for 30-40 minutes, until lentils and chickpeas are soft.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
