Moussaka

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 cup diced eggplant
  • 1 cup diced potatoes
  • 1 cup diced zucchini
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 cup grated cheese (cheddar or feta)
  • 1 cup heavy cream or milk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or lamb over medium heat until browned. Drain off any excess fat.
  3. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened.
  4. Add the eggplant, potatoes, zucchini, tomatoes, oregano, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. In a baking dish, layer half of the beef mixture, then half of the cheese. Repeat the layers.
  6. Pour the cream or milk over the top.
  7. Bake in the oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the vegetables are tender.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Note: You can make it with or without meat.
